Ask for the actual report, SOC 2 Type II is the meaningful one. Type I is a snapshot; Type II covers a period.

Confirm that the certified scope covers the production environment that processes your data, not a sandbox or a parent company's separate stack.

Read the exceptions section. Vendors who refuse to share it are a flag.
Continuous monitoring
Annual audits are a floor, not a ceiling. Ask what real-time controls and alerting are in place.
